Puppy Tales

Owen is now 17 months old. When did our baby become a little boy who can climb on the couch and read a favorite book?

A new pet?

No, we didn't get another dog. We bought this mask a few years back to entertain Crash. I've pulled it out a few times to entertain our not-as-furry child, but he wasn't very interested...until now. This was right before bath time and he was having a blast until I started howling. I think he thought I was upset and wanted to hug and comfort me.

Have a seat

Since Owen is now able to climb on the sofa, we decided to get him his very own chair. We looked high and low and even searched online. There aren't many affordable options that don't have a character on them. And although this isn't the most attractive, it's the best we could find.

This is his reaction when he first walked into the room:

And then he had to take it for a test drive...

And of course it took him less than 2 minutes to do this...

Fork It Over!

We have been working with Owen and his self-feeding skills for a while now. It really helps when they have Mickey Mouse on the top of the handle.

It's the climb...now with pictures

Yes, I am using a Miley Cyrus/Hannah Montana song as the title of this post. It's the first thing that came to mind.

Anyway...Owen climbed on the sofa at the beach with no problem. Apparently it was lower than ours. Until today, he could only master our couch with assistance. It's only a matter of time before he scales the walls of the crib. Thank goodness we unknowingly picked a crib with a very low mattress. And he has been asking, no, demanding we put him in there to play with some of his new Disney buddies. We happily oblige b/c we know we can get something done while he's in solitary.

Trying to find Nemo

This year at Owen's preschool auction, we bid on and won passes to the aquarium. We finally made it down there today. The new exhibit features penguins, but they weren't cooperative...or interesting in my opinion.

He was pretty reserved until we let him out of the stroller...

Ay Ay Captain!
Big fish...I ain't skeered...

Checking out a crab...We don't have any food for you!

Walking (crawling would have been too easy) through a "log"...

A skunk? At the aquarium? If you say so...

Crossing the rope bridge...

Posing with one of the frogs...

The search continues.

Rub-A-Dub-Dub

Owen has been a little leary of the bathtub since we were at the beach. I think he was so exhausted by bath time each night he just wasn't interested. He's slowly been getting back into the groove. Until two nights ago we still used something like this:Yes, we have used this since Owen was a few months old. And yes, he is now 16.5 months old. We have tried several times to put him in the bath without this insert but he screams until we eventually give in and give it back to him. For some reason he prefers the bath with the insert, even though he has no fear of the pool or the ocean. Go figure.

Yesterday he wandered into the bathroom and tried to climb in the tub. Brig complied and he played in there for a good 15 minutes. She let me know immediately and we decided it may be time to try again. For the record, I don't mind using the insert...especially since it's easy for him to lay back when I wash his hair. He just outgrew it many months ago.

Last night was not easy. He cried and would not sit down. Tonight we decided to try a new toy and bubbles. Owen has never had a bubble bath. He loves bubbles and it was even one of his first words. We managed to get him to sit down, if only for a few minutes. He is making progress one night at a time.

Litchfield: Day 6

This shot is from our last full day at Litchfield and Owen was exhausted. He barely played yesterday morning.

And this is after dinner...the boys posing on a buoy:

Our family on the front steps:

And these are from our last walk on the beach. We all had a wonderful time on Owen's first "real" vacation.

Thanks to the Shannon, Wheeler and Daniel families for having us!

Litchfield: Day 1

We arrived at Litchfield late yesterday afternoon. Well, technically we are at North Litchfield. Anyway, we left the house when Owen was due for his nap, but he did not sleep until after we got to Pawley's Island and had lunch. So he only slept for around 45 minutes. He did not take an afternoon nap and got to bed way later than he ever has before. We are all sleeping in the same room, which we have not done since O was really small. O did great and didn't wake up until 7:30 this morning.

Today was our first full day here and after breakfast we headed to the beach. If you are a regular blog stalker, then you know it isn't our first time taking O to the beach. It is, however, the first time we have been at the beach with friends. O had a great time playing in the water, digging a hole for a pool and chasing dogs down the beach.

We came in for lunch and afterwards O had a nap. A very long nap. Like 3.5 hours. By the time he got up, it was dinnertime. We had Mexican (thanks John!) and then went for a walk. It was high tide, and the water is a little chilly, so we kept O away from it tonight. He had a blast picking up and waving the "sticks". Can't wait for more beach fun tomorrow!
