Carving pumpkins and making spiders

Today we headed to our local pumpkin patch to try and find something suitable to carve.

Owen really liked this one.  One guess if we took it home...

Then the carving started.  Please remember this was my first attempt!

During

 After

Not too horrible for my first time.  I intended to put a "2010" on the other side but jacked up the "Owen" so I decided to stop while I was ahead.

Later on Chef Owen helped Brig make cupcakes.  His fave was the spider.

Fall Festival

Owen had a Fall Festival at school yesterday.  We wrongly assumed it was the entire school, but it was just his class.  The teacher(s) made each of the kids a pumpkin shirt and painted their faces.  They played fun games outside and brought home a Halloween goody bag.

corn maze and ghost walk

Our weekend was jam packed!  Friday night we went out to the West Farm Corn Maze.  First, we went to the petting zoo and fed some goats.  I let Chris handle that while I took pics.

They still look hungry...

Then the kids picked out and decorated pumpkins.

We went on the hayride, but it was very bumpy and dark, so the pics are very blurry.  The kids played in the miniature corn maze, but by this time some older kids (who were too big anyway) had destroyed the bales.

Saturday night we went on the Ghost Walk.  Brig and I did this years ago and it has really grown.  Owen did pretty well considering the theme of a few acts.  The next to last act were Civil War soldiers who fired off guns and dynamite.  Owen didn't care for that got really upset even though I told him it was going to be loud and I covered his ears.

 The kids digging for treasure...

Josh was a skeleton, Sam was a bat and Owen was Buzz.  These are not their actual Halloween costumes.

we can't catch a break

***Update***

It's still a mystery.  Dr. P doesn't know what the rash is and we are just putting cream on it a few times a day.  Brig reports that it looks much better this morning.

Brig went in around 4:00 this morning to check on Owen.  There was an unpleasant odor and he had the big "D".  He was upset, but only because we woke him up and attempted to turn the light (too bright!) on...I gave him a bath in the dark.  Once we got everything changed and washing, we went back to bed.  I got another 30 minutes of sleep before I had to get up for work.  I should have just stayed up and done something productive.

This morning she reported that he was fine and he went to Sarah's house.  She called me an hour ago and said when she went to pick him up he had a rash.  He wasn't complaining, but Sarah noticed it and they realized it was spreading.  We are heading to see Dr. P this afternoon.  Maybe it has something to do with last nights event?  We'll see...

there's something going around

We heard Owen cough around 10:15 last night and I went to check on him.  He was vomiting and always gets upset when that happens.  He went into the tub and we cleaned up.  This happened several more times in the next two hours.

He has never vomited more than once at a time.  Just when we thought it was over, it happened again.

He finally just started coughing and spitting clear saliva into a bowl.  Poor buddy finally fell back asleep on a towel in the middle of his bedroom floor right before midnight.  He didn't wake up when I moved him back to the crib.

Brig said this morning he woke up and said he has hungry.  Dr. Pittard says he has the 24 hr stomach bug and his own child had been sick too.

Mountain Trip 2010

We headed to the mountains last Thursday afternoon.  On the way up, we stopped off at the Bat Cave to get Krispy Kreme.  This is a tradition that Brig and I established a few years back.

Friday morning we got up bright and early and headed to Pigeon Forge.  Why does that seem like a longer ride than the ride from here to the mountains?  Maybe it's b/c we traveled the day before.  We hit the Disney store first and right before we got ready to pay, the power went out.  Was that a sign that we should just walk away?  We stayed and then hit Gymboree.  We didn't buy anything b/c we had just used our Gymbucks the week before online.

Our next stop and main reason for going to PF was Applewood.  Here's Owen out front and in the Christmas store.  A store specializing in breakable ornaments is a dangerous place for a 2.5 year old.

That afternoon we took Grandmama up the road to check out the view.  I used the opportunity to take some autumnal pics.

Saturday morning we went to Santa's Land.  It was very odd and extremely cold.  We didn't come completely prepared b/c it warmed up quick the day before, but Santa's Land is mostly under shade.

Owen got to sit on Santa's lap for the first time this year.

A real reindeer?

Hungry?

Owen and I rode the peddle boats and I couldn't tell you the last time I did this.  Since he couldn't reach the peddles, he insisted on driving.  And he did, right into the wall.

There were several rides for him and there was no crowd, so he just kept riding.

And riding...

And riding...

Here we are showing off Owen's elf hat...thanks Grandmama!

An igloo...

And a huge rabbit Owen called the Easter Bunny...at Santa's Land???

I was going to warn you not to bother going here, but it was an adventure and Owen did have a good time.  It was our first and last visit.

After this trip and Disney I am glad to be home for a while.

Stuff Owen says

Tonight during bath he said "Daddy, will Santa bring us new toys to the house?"  I said yes, but you need to tell us or him what you want.  He said, "I want a Bunglebee Pillow Pet.  You get them at Target."  Little does he know Santa already got this, but got a frog instead.  So far, he's only asked for a Pillow Pet and a big boy bed.

The rest of our Disney trip (final post!)

I started writing this so long ago, and I am ready to wrap it up.  Guess I should have done it this way from the start.  Anyway...

That Wednesday morning we headed back to Animal Kingdom to eat at the character brunch at Tusker House.  It looks like a run-down hostel on the outside, but once you are inside it still looks like a hostel.  I think that's on purpose, but there is great food and the characters actually came to our table.

Then we met Baloo and King Louie our our way to Dinoland.  Owen played there while I rode Everest.

By then it was nap time and after that we headed to MK for the Electrical Parade.  On our way in we met Tigger and Pooh...

and Chip and Dale...

That took quite a while, so we just grabbed a premium seat on the curb of Main Street U.S.A and had corn dog nuggets from Casey's Corner for dinner.

Waiting for the parade to start...

Tinkerbell...

I think this was a snail...it was an accident, but the blur was cool so I left it alone...

Captain Hook!  Owen wasn't so fond of him.

 Pete's Dragon...

Owen thinks this smoke is da bomb so he has asked to be a dragon for Halloween.  Now to explain the smoke isn't part of the deal...

On Thursday morning we headed back to MK to pack in as many rides as possible.  We also hit toontown and Owen rode his first roller coaster.
The speedway...

Pirates of the Caribbean...Arghhh!

Jungle Cruise...

Finally met Peter Pan and Wendy!  They asked him to go with them to Neverland, but he declined.

That night we went back (rather quickly) to Epcot and had dinner at Teppan Edo.  And then we walked back through the countries.

Mexico...

He's really getting into pirate mode now...

And then we rode Nemo one more time.  Owen insisted on taking a pic with each and every character outside the ride.  I spared you by only showing Nemo and Dory...

We bid adieu to Epcot...

Friday morning was our last day, so of course we hit MK one last time.

 Squinting on the train...

We put Zurg behind bars...

The last parade we saw...

Owen did really well on our trip and didn't have a meltdown until the very end.  Right after this parade we went to get on the monorail.  There was a 15 minute delay so we opted to ride the ferry to the parking lot.  I thought it was a good idea, but it ended up taking us over an hour to get to the car.

I think his fit was due to a combination of him being worn out and upset at the fact that we were leaving.
